Summary

This course will train delegates in the correct procedures to be followed when managing or supervising work at height. Including the relevant statutory requirements, recognise the potential hazards of working at height and selecting the correct equipment for working at height. The course is a mix of theoretical and practical sessions during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their level of knowledge and understanding of the training programme content.

Objectives

By the end of this training programme delegates will be:

  • Fully aware of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and other relevant regulations specific to managers & supervisors
  • Familiar with the requirements of the regulations and how they affect themselves, those they are responsible for and their organisation
  • Fully aware of the necessity to pre plan work at height and how to implement procedures
  • Familiar with the safe systems of work to eliminate or mitigate hazards from working at height activities
  • Fully aware of the requirement for risk assessments and how to compile and review a risk assessment
  • Fully aware of the importance of method statements to carry out work at height safely
  • Fully aware of the requirement for rescue planning for working at height activities
  • Familiar with the types of rescue and considerations when planning a rescue
  • Familiar with the permit to work system and control measures to be implemented
  • Aware of the responsibilities as a manager or supervisor when authorising working at height permits
  • Aware of their responsibility to communicate clear and concise instructions to the work party to ensure everyone understands the task requirements
  • Aware of the potential hazards that could harm personnel working at height including dropped objects, selection of equipment and orthostatic intolerance
  • Familiar with different methods of controlling hazards that arise from of working at height activities and their individual requirements
  • Familiar with the different types of equipment that can be used when working at height and their individual requirements
  • Aware of the different types of working platforms and their individual requirements
  • Aware of the correct use of ladders including pitching, testing and potential hazards

Target Audience

Personnel who are responsible for the management or supervision of work at height in the workplace.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisite requirements for this training programme.

Award

An In-house training provider certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.

Revalidation

There is no revalidation period for this training programme but refresher training is recommended every 2 years.
