This course introduces those from a non-drilling background to the drilling process including the different types of drilling rig and their individual operating environments.
The complete drilling process from starting out with top hole to handing the finished well over to production is explained along with the main equipment components that are needed to do this. Key players in the
drilling operation are identified along with the role they play, and we also look at how the modern drilling industry is pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
Objectives
Delegates completing a Basic Drilling Awareness training course will have an awareness of;

- Basic components of any drilling rig
- Different drilling rig types and their operating environments
Basic equipment used:
- Drill bits
- The drill string
- The circulating system
- Drilling fluids (mud)
- The hoisting system

- Hole sections and depths

Basic well control principles:
- The BOP stack
- Stack components
- Other well control equipment
- Basic well kill procedures
The drill crew:
- Key roles and responsibilities
- Additional support crew
Pushing the limits:
- Extended reach / horizontal drilling
- Deepwater drilling
- Harsh environment drilling
- Ultra-deep well
Target Audience
Personnel working for organisations involved in drilling operations that do not have any technical discipline requirements.
Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites for a Basic Drilling Awareness training course.
Award
An in-house training provider certificate will be issued upon successful completion of a Basic Drilling Awareness training course.
Revalidation
There is no revalidation period for this certificate.
