Summary
STCW Updated Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting ensures seafarers with a valid initial STCW Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting can revalidate their competency in accordance with Section A-VI/1 of STCW paragraph 3.
Objectives
Delegates completing an STCW Updated Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting training course will be able to;
- Correctly use portable and mobile (wheeled) fire extinguishers on appropriate fires
- Correctly use hoses, nozzles and hose equipment
- Extinguish different types of fires as a member of a team using a range of equipment commonly found on board a vessel
- Test and use breathing apparatus and associated equipment
Target Audience
All seafarers seeking updating training certification for fire prevention and fire fighting onboard ships.
Prerequisites
In order to complete an STCW Updated Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting training course, delegates must:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Hold an STCW Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting certificate or an accepted equivalent
Award
An MCA-approved STCW certificate of updated proficiency will be issued upon successful completion of an STCW Updated Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting training course.
Revalidation
The certificate must be revalidated every 5 years.
