Summary
STCW Updated Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (Other Than Fast Rescue Boats) allows seafarers with the initial certification to demonstrate they have retained the knowledge and skills of a lifeboat coxswain which cannot reasonably be practiced onboard a ship as per STCW 78 as amended (STCW Section A-VI/2).
Objectives
Delegates completing an STCW Updated Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (Other Than Fast Rescue Boats) training course will be able to;
- Understand dangers associated with the use of off-load and on-load release devices
- Understand correct operation of off-load and on-load release devices
- Understand correct operation of fall prevention/secondary safety devices or their equivalent
- Safely operate a survival craft engine
- Safely take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch
Target Audience
Personnel with an existing STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (Other Than Fast Rescue Boats) certification who wish to maintain certification, but have not undergone the required updating training onboard a ship, and require the full updating training at an MCA-approved training centre.
Prerequisites
In order to complete an STCW Updated Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (Other Than Fast Rescue Boats) training course, delegates must hold a valid STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (Other Than Fast Rescue Boats) (STCW Section A-VI/2) or equivalent.
Award
An MCA-approved STCW certificate of proficiency will be issued upon successful completion of an STCW Updated Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (Other Than Fast Rescue Boats) training course.
Revalidation
The certificate must be revalidated every 5 years.
