Summary

The GMDSS Short Range Certificate (SRC) training course is the minimum qualification which must be completed by personnel operating, or supervising the operation of, a marine VHF radio.

Objectives

Delegates completing a GMDSS Short Range Certificate (SRC) training course will be able to;

  • Understand VHF radiotelephony procedures in the maritime mobile service
  • Operate the equipment
  • Understand operational procedures of the GDMSS
  • Explain detailed practical operation of all sub-systems and equipment

Target Audience

Personnel operating on vessels and/or installations which are fitted with non-compulsory GMDSS short range equipment.

Prerequisites

In order to complete a GMDSS Short Range Certificate (SRC) training course, delegates must complete the online e-Learning element at least 7 days prior to attending the practical exam.

Award

An RYA certificate of competence will be issued upon successful completion of a GMDSS Short Range Certificate (SRC) training course.

Revalidation

There is no revalidation period for the certificate.

Delegates should bring

  • Government issued photographic ID e.g. Driver's Licence or Passport
  • 1 x passport complaint photograph
  • Completed RYA SRC pack
