Summary

The course will: train delegates in the principles of banking a crane using hand and radio signals, in the correct slinging of different types of loads, and in the safety precautions to be taken whilst working with cranes. The course is a mix of theoretical and practical sessions, during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their level of knowledge and understanding of the training programme content

Objectives

By the end of this training programme delegates will:

  • Be aware of the relevant regulations pertaining to lifting operations (e.g. LOLER and PUWER)
  • Be able to assess loads in terms of their weight and centre of gravity
  • Have an understanding of SWLs and colour coding
  • Be able to carry out pre-use inspections on equipment to ensure safe lifting
  • Be able to sling loads and ensure they are secure and ready for lifting
  • Be conversant with the correct hand and radio signals to be used
  • Be aware of the correct use of different lifting equipment (e.g. slings, shackles and chains)
  • Familiar with the correct packing and stowage of containers, half heights and correct securing methods
  • Be aware of all safety precautions to be taken whilst working with cranes in terms of issues such as safe

Target Audience

All personnel who are involved in banking and slinging cranes offshore and those who supervise such work

Prerequisites

  • Due to certain aspects of the course being physically demanding and potentially stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement

Award

An OPITO approved certificate will be issued upon course completion

Revalidation

The course must be revalidated every 2 years.

  • Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport
  • £1.00 coin for locker
  • Wet Weather Gear & set of dry clothing
  • Safety Glasses or Goggles if prescribed
