Summary

The course will train delegates in the correct procedures to be followed before, during and after working in a confined space. Delegates will also be made aware of the relevant regulations, how to test that gas and oxygen levels are suitable for entrance into a confined space and what measures to take in an emergency whilst working within the space. The course will also train delegates in the correct methods to make up, test and proficiently use self-contained breathing apparatus and rescue sets. The course is both theoretical and practical, during which, delegates will be required to show their level of knowledge and understanding of the training programme content.

Objectives

By the end of this course delegates will be:

  • Aware of the relevant regulations governing working in confined spaces
  • Aware of exposure limits, types of gases that may be encountered and precautions to be taken
  • Able to identify hazards regarding entrance to / working in / and exiting a confined space
  • Aware of safe systems of work that should be implemented when working within confined spaces
  • Able to recognise and understand confined space permits, gas test certificates and task risk assessments
  • Fully aware of confined space control measures and how they should be implemented
  • Fully aware of different types of communication methods that can be used when working in confined spaces
  • Fully aware of the correct use of different types of equipment used in a confined space
  • Familiar with equipment that can be used for a confined space rescue
  • Familiar with different types of breathing apparatus used for working in confined spaces
  • Familiar with the correct measures to be taken in the event of a confined space emergency
  • Proficient in the pre-use testing and using of self-contained breathing apparatus
  • Fully aware of the restrictions of wearing self-contained breathing apparatus when working in confined spaces

Target Audience

All personnel required to carry out work or oversee work in confined spaces.

Prerequisites

Due to certain aspects of the course being physically demanding and potentially stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness and physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self screening form prior to course commencement.

Award

An In-house training provider certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.

Revalidation

There is no revalidation period for this training programme but refresher training is recommended every 2 years.

Delegates should bring

  • Government issued photographic ID e.g. Driver's Licence or Passport
  • £1.00 coin for locker
  • Safety glasses or goggles if prescribed
