Summary
Survivex's Banksman course covers the principles of banking a crane using hand and radio signals.
Delegates will learn to correctly sling different types of loads and the safety precautions to take while working with cranes.
The course is delivered as a combination of theoretical and practical sessions and requires delegates to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding throughout.
PLEASE NOTE: Survivex's Banksman course is designed for personnel working onshore. If you require offshore training, you can book OPITO Banksman and Slinger Training Stage 1.
Objectives
By the end of Survivex's Banksman course delegates will:
- Be aware of the relevant regulations pertaining to lifting operations (e.g. LOLER and PUWER)
- Be able to assess loads in terms of their weight and centre of gravity. - Have an understanding of SWLs and colour coding
- Be able to carry out pre-use inspections on equipment to ensure safe lifting
- Be able to sling loads and ensure they are secure and ready for lifting
- Be conversant with the correct hand and radio signals to be used
- Be aware of the correct use of different lifting equipment (e.g. slings, shackles and chains)
- Be familiar with the correct packing and stowage of containers, half heights and correct securing methods
- Be aware of all safety precautions to be taken whilst working with cranes in terms of issues such as safe stances
Target Audience
Survivex's Banksman course is for personnel who are involved in banking and slinging cranes, and those who supervise such work.
Prerequisites
Award
An in-house training provider certificate will be issued on successful completion of Survivex's Banksman course.
Revalidation
There is no revalidation period for Survivex's Banksman course but refresher training is recommended every 2 years.

- Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport

- Wet Weather Gear & set of dry clothing
- Safety Glasses or Goggles if prescribed
